Save the Earth Club wishes everyone a very merry holiday season!!! We look forward to seeing all of our members (old and new) at our January 29th meeting in 2020! Our first big event of 2020 will be Earth Hour on March 28th. If you are a new member and have not yet celebrated Earth Hour with our club, you can find more information on this global event here: https://www.earthhour.org/
As we end 2019, here our some tips to keep your holidays green!
- Consider making your own gift, instead of buying gifts. Not only will you save money, but you will save the environment from the plastic packaging!
- Use candles instead of electricity for light! They add a festive glow and beautiful ambiance to holiday parties!
- Make a gift for the wildlife outside! These birdseed ornaments also make a fantastic gift for friends and family! Bird Seed Ornaments from One Little Project
- Look for 'green' products, support local stores and consider shopping at holiday fairs/markets!
- Consider buying a living Christmas tree that you can replant outside! You can also buy a fake tree that you can use for many decades to come! If you do buy a real Christmas tree, buy from an eco-friendly retailer.
- Make homemade cards and ornaments from recycled materials around your house!
- Find alternatives to wrapping paper. Reusing comics in newspapers is a great way to wrap a present! Also, you can use a new kitchen towel (which adds an additional present) or use scraps of fabric! Consider cutting up an old sweater to use as gift wrap!
- Re-gift! What may not be the perfect present for one person, may be perfect for another! Also, consider donating anything that may not be returnable if it doesn't fit or work for you.
- Have a potluck holiday dinner and share the leftovers!
- Time is precious, so don't forget to consider volunteering this holiday season! There are many charities around the country and world that would love your assistance!
We hope you enjoy your 'green' winter!
